NeatSnap ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application and web service.
Information We Collect
Personal Information
When you create an account, we collect:

- First and last name
- Password (encrypted)
Financial Data
When you use our expense tracking features, we collect:
- Expense amounts, merchants, and categories
- Budget information
- Receipt images (if you choose to upload them)
- Income records
Usage Data
We automatically collect certain information when you use the app:
- Device information (type, operating system)
- App usage patterns
- Error logs for debugging purposes
How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide and maintain our service
- Process your expenses and generate insights

Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored securely using industry-standard encryption. We use:

AI and OCR Processing โ Third-Party Data Sharing
When you use the receipt scanning or PDF bank-statement import features, the following data is sent to a third-party AI service for processing:
What data is sent
- The receipt image or bank-statement page you selected (as a compressed image).
- No other personal data (name, email, password, or account information) is included in the request.
Who receives the data
- Images are sent to OpenAI, L.L.C. ("OpenAI"), a third-party AI provider based in the United States.
- OpenAI processes the image solely to extract text (merchant name, amount, date) and returns the result to our server.
- OpenAI's API data usage policy states that data submitted via the API is not used to train or improve their models.

How we protect your data
- Images are transmitted over encrypted (TLS) connections.
- We do not store images on OpenAI's servers; processing is ephemeral.
- You can delete any receipt image from the app at any time.
Your consent
- Before your first scan, the app will ask for your explicit permission to send image data to OpenAI.
- You may decline, in which case you can still enter expenses manually.
- You can revoke this consent at any time from the app's Settings screen.
Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services:
- OpenAI: For receipt scanning and data extraction (see "AI and OCR Processing" above for full details).
- PostHog: For anonymized usage analytics (e.g., feature usage, screen views). No financial data or receipt images are sent to PostHog.
- Stripe / Apple In-App Purchase: For payment processing. We do not store your full credit card information.
- Resend: For sending transactional emails.
Data Sharing
We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties. We may share data only:
- AI Processing (OpenAI): When you use receipt scanning or PDF import, your images are sent to OpenAI for text extraction. See "AI and OCR Processing" above for full details.
- Analytics (PostHog): Anonymized usage data only โ no financial data or receipt images.
- With your consent
- To comply with legal obligations
- To protect our rights and safety
- With service providers who assist in operating our app (under strict confidentiality agreements)
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access your personal data
- Correct inaccurate data
- Delete your account and data
- Export your data
- Opt out of marketing communications
Data Deletion
You can request deletion of your data at any time. To delete your account and all associated data:
- Open the NeatSnap app
- Go to Settings (bottom navigation bar)
- Scroll down and tap "Delete Account"
- Enter your password to confirm
- Tap "Delete Account" to permanently remove your data
Data that is permanently deleted within 30 days:
- Your account information (name, email, password)
- All expense and income records
- All budget configurations and history
- All receipt images and scan data
- All bill reminders and recurring transactions
- Shared budget group memberships and contributions
- Savings goals and progress
Data that may be retained after deletion:
- Anonymized, aggregated analytics data that cannot identify you
- Records required by law for tax or legal compliance purposes
- Transaction logs required for financial auditing (retained for up to 7 years as required by law)
If you are unable to access your account, you can request data deletion by emailing support@neatsnap.app with the subject line "Data Deletion Request" and the email address associated with your account.
Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal purposes.
Children's Privacy
Our service is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
